Street Style: Boston

Posted on 17:06 by kumar
m- There are few things better than New England in the fall.  After 16 hours of driving, and a fair share of caffeine, Tillery and I finally made it to our final destination- Boston. 75 degrees with a nice breeze, and beautiful ever-changing leaves, Boston welcomed us with open arms. Tillery and I truly had an amazing time soaking in all that Boston has to offer.
It's hard for me to pass up a good ole' ally shot so I had to get Tillery to snap a quick one for me. Right off Newbury Street, Boston's best place to shop in the city, I sported my new Chambray American Apparel shirt and vintage denim jacket with some black Kill City jeans and high top Converses.
Rockin the colored pants for the fall Tillery! Tillery is all about glitter and sequins and you really can't hold her down in that department. I think she did a great job bringing these two different elements together for a fun evening look out on the town.We made quite the adventure out to one of the Boston Harbor islands on our second day in the city and man was it worth it. The view of the city and the harbor was absolutely breathtaking. Keeping it trendy, Tillery grabbed some more great color pants for the trip.
Already picked me out a house on the harbor...

Cooling off.

Posted on 05:02 by kumar

c- Legwarmers, wristwarmers, and fringe...OH MY!  Pale is the new tan in our world, and we were totally embracing it.  Fall colors are still our obsession but this time with a twist of clothing that may actually keep us warm now that the temperature is dropping.  Michael purchased these killer wrist warmers from Zara on Newbury Street. Amazing, right?! They compliment my legwarmers perfectly.

I am so lucky to have a mother who was fashionable when quality jewelry was easier to find than today.  These earrings on the left were passed down to me from my mother when she wore them in the 80's.  I love the colors, texture, and quality you find in earrings of that decade.

Fringe! How can I not obsess over my new vintage fringe above on the right.  Michael took me to some new vintage shops where I found this piece for only $10.  The colors all come together like a beautiful piece of art. It is such a fun and funky way to wear fall colors paired with colored tights! I found these at Forever 21 but you really can find them anywhere.
Try pairing colored tights with your favorite leg warmers, boots, and colored skirts if you want to surrender to the amazing color blocking we are seeing this fall.

I will always be a sucker for huge hair accessories.  I purchased this beauty with my mom on a quick stroll through to Stein Mart, who would have known?! I just couldn't resist.

Summer in the South: a quintessential afternoon

Posted on 07:20 by kumar

Ok so. Today something weird happened.  Sarah and I were able to take the day off from school work and work work and actually enjoy ourselves! Something was up, but we weren't asking questions. There are plenty of places to spend the day in Wilmington but Airlie Gardens is one of the best. Rightly self-proclaimed, "breathtaking quintessential Southern Gardens," this 67 acres of land is truly a sanctuary of Southern vegetation. What a place to spend the afternoon.

After forgetting my card for my camera and turning around to get it, we were welcomed by a dead battery when we finally got back to the gardens. Having that said, all of these pictures are taken from my iphone.

A little unconventional, but definitely effective, I think the iphone held it's own on this impromptu shoot.

This AWESOME vintage vest is to die for. The 70's feel is perfect and the details are something hard to come by these days. Sarah found this for a steal at an the awesome consignment boutique, Second Time Around, located in downtown Wilmington. Original vests are great ways to switch up an outfit and truly make it your own.
My American Apparel package finally came in! This brown t-shirt is one of THE most comfortable shirts I've ever owned in my life. Extra long, and super super soft, this light tee was perfectly juxtaposed with a vintage wool cardigan found at Bargain Box in Wilmington (the green is fantastic too).

Sarah's sunglasses are vintage 70's specs from the closet of her very own great-grandmother.

Told you the iphone knew how to do work! Sarah got a great shot of my accessories for the day. I try to make sure that I don't over-do it in the accessories department. My Michael Kors watch, Mango cassette necklace, and custom ring from Mallorca pulled the outfit together nicely.

One last thing. How amazing are these boots?? The army green combats are PERFECT for the fall. Who says you can't look killer and be comfortable? These puppies are lined with awesomeness. Of course these great shoes are from Edge of Urge (everything amazing usually is).

Because we're obsessed.

Local Fashion Show: Torri Bell and Range Rover Present: Fashion Reigns

Posted on 09:41 by kumar

m- This past thursday I was privileged to spend the evening with some beautiful people at the "Fashion Reigns" fashion show put on by the fabulous torri/bell owners, Torri Winstead and Gina Borgese Bell, and Land Rover Cape Fear.  It was a glamorous night with great fashion, awesome cars, and great people and I truly enjoyed myself. A night surrounded by beautiful fashion is always a good night.

There is nothing like a black bowtie to keep the night classic. I decided to sport mine with some skinny suspenders from Topman.

This black and white striped dress was one of my favorite looks from the night. The heavy material had wonderful movement and this short leather jacket had the perfect asymmetrical lines to bring it all together. I don't know who this is, but I love you.

I was so lucky to have Courtney come join me on the shoot to get some pre-event shots for the blog and was not surprised when she showed up looking as fantastic as ever. Courtney's black pleated Sangria dress and red vintage belt gave her a perfect shape for the evening.

Ok so, Courtney speaking! If you want to achieve my hairstyle start with teasing the top back part of your hair to gain volume.  Next, you're going to want to curl your hair in loose curls, flip your hair over and toss it around to gain volume then pin it to one side with bobby pins. I like to accent it with an oversided flower or bow to gain a classic look!

My outfit tonight was a melting pot of pieces from all over the world and I was so excited to get to showcase them. My suspenders were from the Topman in London, shirt sleeve oxford from Zara off 5th in Manhattan, black biker boots from Bershka in Barcelona, and standard H&M jeans from Grand Tenerife in the Canary Islands. I love how simple pieces can have such a great story behind them.

Pictures of the fashion show coming soon!

Because we're obsessed.
